Telecommunications Communications Products Amplified Telephone Measurement Procedures and Performance Requirements

1.1 S COPE This standard establishes telephone audio performance requirements, measurement methods, and test procedures for telephones with high receive gain and control of the receive frequency spectrum. This standard addresses audio performance in narrowband and wideband telephony frequencies using scientific methods and techniques derived or adapted from current telephone measurement standards for handsets and speakerphones. Narrowband is defined as the frequency range between 300 and 3400 Hz. Wideband is defined as the frequency range between 100 and 7000 Hz
1.2 C OMPLIANCE TO H EARING L OSS C ATEGORIES This standard provides performance requirements for three levels of hearing loss (Mild, Moderate, and Severe). To claim compliance to this standard for any of the three levels, the product shall comply with all of the requirements for that level of hearing loss and with all of the requirements for any lower level of hearing loss (e.g., a telephone claiming compliance with the Moderate category requirements shall also be compliant with the requirements for the Mild category, but need not be compliant with the requirements for the Severe category).
1.3 M EASUREMENT R EQUIREMENTS The test measurement methods in this document reference procedures in IEEE and TIA Standards and ITU-T Recommendations. Although this document may reference specific procedures or test equipment, other measurement procedures and equipment that can generate an equivalent result will be considered valid. However, it is the responsibility of the tester to insure and report the equivalence.
1.4 O THER T ELEPHONY P ERFORMANCE C ONSIDERATIONS This document does not specify the complete analog telephone performance requirements (e.g. network dialing, resistance and impedance, caller-ID, etc. are not included). The complete list of analog interface telephone related performance requirements can be found in ANSI/TIA-470.000-E. For digitals telephones related performance requirements can be found in ANSI/TIA-920.000-B.
It is expected that a high gain amplified telephone will meet the ANSI/TIA-470.000-E and ANSI/TIA- 920.000-B list of requirements for normal telephone operation. Limited testing for normal acoustic performance is specified in this document to establish the baseline performance.
